New reports say that sugar is bad for you and artificial sweeteners worse.
We don't care, because we know that coffee is healthy!
At one time, some researchers presumed coffee was bad for one’s health. As a result, there have been numerous studies on coffee consumption, some of which were really looking to find health risks. Good news coffee drinkers – most of the studies not only found little risk, the studies found health benefits!
- Coffee seems to help prevent type II diabetes (OK- not so much if you put four sugars in every cup). The Harvard School of Public Health maintains a longitudinal study that includes tracking coffee consumption. According to doctoral candidate Ming Ding who has worked on the study, “Bioactive compounds in coffee reduce insulin resistance…”. More information on that study here.
- Coffee also has some positive impact on liver disease and reduces the likelihood of developing liver cancer. According to Dr. Carlo La Vecchia,” Our research confirms past claims that coffee is good for your health, and particularly the liver.” Find more about Dr. La Vecchia’s research here.
- It’s good for heart health. In our personal view, if it is good for heart health, it is likely good for brain health. There are numerous studies looking for linkage between coffee drinking habits and heart health. One studyfrom Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Harvard Center for Public Health concluded that drinking two eight-ounce cups a day is associated with a reduced risk of heart failure.
- Regular coffee drinking may help prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, as reported here.
- And check this out – according to a study performed by the University of Southern California Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center of the Keck School of Medicine, coffee consumption is associated with a lower risk of colorectal cancer. In fact, Dr. Steven Gruber, MD, PhD, MPH said “We found that drinking coffee is associated with lower risk of colorectal cancer, and the more coffee consumed, the lower the risk". Dr. Gruber was the senior author of the study.
- Best of all, a massive study-over 500,000 participants in 10 Euro countries found that higher coffee consumption is associated with a reduced risk of premature death from all causes!
We aren’t experts on all of that, but we do know it is our performance-enhancing drug of choice. Best of all, if you buy one of our blends, it’s delicious.

The founder, Mark Verrochi, was stationed in Seattle while in the Navy, where he witnessed the rise of coffee houses featuring high-quality, fresh-brewed coffee. Returning to New England after his service, he started his own roasting operation to produce gourmet coffee.
